When Al-Megrahi stepped off the plane that took him to his homeland of Libya, thousands were there to greet him. Many there believe he's innocent of the Lockerbie bombing charges - and see him as scapegoat of the US and UK.
But the US government and some victims' relatives said he never should have been released.
