Russia has launched an ambitious plan to bolster its claims to the riches of the Arctic ocean, hoping to create a new shipping route as ice in the region rapidly melts.
The project is being watched closely by other nations, with Wednesday the last day for any nation to stake a claim to the resource-rich Arctic.
