Indians are voting in the third phase of the world's biggest democratic exercise. The main contest is between the ruling Congress party and the Hindu nationalist BJP - but smaller parties are expected to do better than in previous votes.

Thursday's election covers BJP strongholds in Western and Southern India where religion plays an important part in how people vote. Al Jazeera's Matt McClure went to Mangalore in India's state of Karnataka, to report on why the Christians there are hoping for a change.
