With many thousands of troops deployed to crack down on Mexico's drug cartels Felipe Calderon, the Mexican president, is clearly committed to a military response to the problem.

But some observers say it is very clear that the authorities must target what the cartels value most - their money - and take specific, direct action against money-laundering.
