The election of Barack Obama as the first black president of the United States was seen as a huge step forward in the fight for equality.

But according to statistics gathered by civil rights groups there's been a sharp rise in race-hate crime across America. Hundreds of incidents of violence and vandalism against ethnic minorities have been reported since Election day.
