North Korea has pardoned and released Laura Ling and Euna Lee two months into a 12-year jail sentence following a meeting between Bill Clinton, the former US president, and Kim Jong-il, North Korea's leader.

Washington has said that Clinton's trip was made as a private citizen and was not linked to North Korea's nuclear programme or efforts to end it.

Wayne Hay reports.
