At the European Parliament in Strasbourg, President Martin Schulz welcomed 12 Croatian observer MEPs. It has become standard practice for countries which are about to join the EU to send observers to take part and speak in meetings, a move which has been criticised as a waste of money. That was not on the mind of these visitors.
