Using Intel Virtualization for Directed I/O or VT-d, Citrix allows you to pass through the GPU performance of a XenDesktop or XenServer to an inferior machine. This allows for the virtualization of graphics intensive apps like AutoCAD, photo editing suites, or even your favorite MMORPG without needing the interface device to have the same level of power. Most applications for this technology will likely be in the workplace, where companies are inclined to invest in fewer powerful machines in favor of acquiring many low cost desktops. By virtualizing the GPU performance, a company can still get the graphic performance required pushed out to these lightweight machines. For home or small business use, you might look at this as the opportunity to keep something like Photoshop installed on your powerful desktop system, while occasionally accessing it from your netbook so you can edit photos from the couch.
