Drug cartels and gangs menace the people of Guatemala. Only 60 percent of children complete primary education. Prospects are bleak for the young. The Mexican drug cartel Los Zetas is a major force in Alta Verapaz in the north of Guatemala. It uses young people to do its dirty work, and most of its victims are also youngsters. But many young people have had enough and are looking for a way out. A project run by local NGOs offers them education and an introduction to democratic values.
