Israel raised the level of alert in the south after intelligence was received that Palestinian terrorists were planning a major attack against Israel. On Monday, Israel's military chief Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz decided to significantly beef up military presence along the Egyptian and Gaza borders. The army also informed Egypt of the decision to boost security measures. Speaking to reporters on Monday Defense Minister Ehud Barak confirmed there is a high alert in the South and added Israel will not tolerate attacks against its citizens. The move came ten days after eight Israelis were killed in a three stage terror attack along Israel's border with Egypt. Last week Gantzimplemented an array of defensive measures after intelligence indicated Palestinians were planning similar attacks. Meanwhile the London based al-Hayat newspaper said Monday1500 Egyptian soldiers were deployed in the Sinai Peninsula following an agreement with Israel.
