The Israeli Government agreed to bring the last 8,000 awaiting members of the Falashmura into the Israeli Borders. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu congratulated the various organizations that have been petitioning in this step for years, stating that: "the government of Israel seeks to resolve this problem which involves a complex humanitarian crisis and so as to avoid the creation of additional refugee camps in Ethiopia". He declared that this upcoming operation symbolizes an end of a circle for him, since he already brought approximately 5,000 Falashmura members to Israel during his first term as prime minister. He also stated that: "we have moral obligations as Jews, as the people of Israel, to find a solution". The Falashmura members are descendents of Ethiopian Jews who were forced to convert to Christianity. They currently reside in transition camps in Gondar, Ethiopia and will be allowed to enter Israel on an individual entitlement while under the supervision of the Jewish Agency.
