Following an investigation in Peru, the Ecologist Film Unit (EFU) discovered problems linked to the fish feed industry. The fishmeal and oil produced in Peru from anchovy fish stocks is used as the principal ingredient in feed used to produce farmed salmon. The problems included the killing of sea lions, decimation of wild bird populations, marine dead zones, allegations of illegal fishing and major health and respiratory problems for communities living in their shadows.
