Johnnie To, né en 1955, est un réalisateur prolifique qui compte à son actif près de 50 films. Véritable maître du suspens et du polar, il a contribué au rayonnement mondial du cinéma hong-kongais.
Ici, une étude thématique de ce qui me semble être une constante de son univers : la ville comme architecture du danger.
Johnnie TO is a prolific Hong-Kong filmaker born in 1955; he was capable of transforming the cinema and police genre into an extremely violent and metaphysical perception of human beings... in a dangerous urban frame... According to me, Johnnie To tells the story of an unescapable city in which individuals have to fight to survive; the way he shoots this idea is depicted in this modest webdocument.
I wish to thank the Public System and the City of Beaune for organizing the Police Cinema Festival... and Nick Cheung who agreed for an interview.
