More than a dozen people were killed when their bus skidded off the road and into this deep gorge in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Local residents could only stand and watch, as rescue teams helped the injured from the wreckage.
Witnesses say the driver swerved to avoid a goat.
SOUNDBITE: Sanjay Singh, bus crash survivor, saying (Hindi):
"The driver took a sharp turn at a bend in the road, as a result of which the vehicle went off the road."
Across the other side of the country, at least seven people lost their lives when a train ploughed into another stationary one in Tamil Nadu state.
More than 70 others have been injured in the accident, which happened at night in heavy rain.
India's railway minister is pledging compensation for the victims and a full inquiry.
SOUNDBITE: Dinesh Trivedi, Indian Railway Minister, saying (English):
"We do not know exactly what happened. All these technical things are very time consuming but we cannot leave any stone unturned and I am personally very much disturbed."
The accident happened just days after one of the country's worst train accidents in years.
At least 80 people died when a train derailed in Uttar Pradesh state.
