A Tibetan Buddhist monk set himself on fire on Monday in Sichuan Province in protest. He called for the return of the Dalai Lama and Tibetan freedom.

Twenty-nine-year-old Tsewang Norbu was said to have drank and poured gasoline over himself before setting himself on fire. He is believed to have died at the scene.

Shortly after, telephone lines and the Internet were cut, likely in an effort to stop news of the self-immolation from spreading.

Tsewang's death comes less than six months after another monk set himself on fire, which sparked massive protests.
