Taking Care of Citrus Leafminer

Taking Care of Citrus Lifeminer - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Leafminers are, again, a larval stage and they are inside the leaf. They make their little curly tunnel as they are eating their way through inside the leaf. So, you see what they call a mine, it looks like a little tunnel. Then the leafminer comes out the other end and goes into a different stage. Recently, here in Southern California, we have had one that has been enjoying attacking young citrus. So, if your citrus tree is old, do not worry about it. Citrus leafminers only like young tender leaves. But, if your tree is young and you see those little tunnels in the leaf, and you see the leaf curl, and then there is a little webbed insect inside of it waiting to hatch out again, that is a citrus leafminer. The only time it is going to do you… And again, you can use this spinosa product because that will take care of leafminers because they a larval stage. But, you want to do it in the spring, or when you’re having a flush of new growth. Or you can say, “Huh. Leaves do not look very good, but all this tree has to do is get a couple of more years older and I will not have that problem,” and do nothing at all. That is up to you.
