The effect of unemployment benefits on Social Security Disability is a gray area for Social Security. Ordinarily you are required to say you are able and available to work to file for unemployment benefits. In filing for disability benefits you are telling the agency that you are not able to work. If you've applied for unemployment benefits and there is a period of time that there is crossover to your disability claim, you will be required to explain the discrepancy in these two claims.
