Unemployability or TDIU is the Department of Veterans Affairs shorthand for total disability based on individual unemployability. There are certain cases where, even though the percentage rating that the VA assigns is not 100%, the veteran's disability is so severe that it prevents them from working. In most cases, the government compensates by giving them a higher rating, 100% benefit payment even though the actual percentage rating is lower.
