BD athlete Kyle Dempster makes first ascent of Mount Edgar's east face—PART ONE
  • 13 years ago
Black Diamond athlete Kyle Dempster traveled to China's Sichuan Province in November 2010 with Bruce Normand and made two major first ascents: the central couloir on the west face of Mount Grosvenor and the east face of Mount Edgar (which is the face that claimed the lives of BD athletes Jonny Copp and Micah Dash, as well as videographer Wade Johnson, in May 2009). The first ascent of Edgar's east face has earned Dempster and Normand their second consecutive nomination for the Piolet d'Or (last year the duo and Jed Brown won the award for their ascent of Xuelian West).

This video is Part One of Dempster's trip and documents the FA on Grosvenor. Part Two will cover the first ascent on Edgar. Introspective and honest, Dempster speaks in-depth about the dangers encountered on Edgar and how accepting such risks in order to make the ascent left him heavily troubled, vowing to never again climb on such an active and dangerous mountain.
