South Korea boasts the Hwaseong Fortress which lies in the country's Suwon region.

Built in the 1790's, this grand monument took about 2 and a half years to complete.

Bricks were used in the construction of the fortress, which can be easily seen throughout the structure.

The distinguishing features of Hwaseong Fortress are its defensive elements which include an arrow-launching platform, battlement, and crenelated parapets.

Its basic layout and designs were based on a relatively new system in architecture known as the Silhak movement.

The fortress embodies an amalgam of designs from the 3 countries of Korea, China and Japan, fused with elements of contemporary architectural science.
