Mother cleared of killing children in house fire

A woman has been cleared of killing two of her children in a house fire.

Fiona Adams has been found not guilty by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court of murdering her daughter Niamh, five, and two-year-old son Cayden in the blaze in Buxton, Derbyshire.

The 24-year-old escaped from the house in Edale Way with her youngest child by jumping from an upstairs window just before on April 23 last year.

As the jury delivered its verdict, Adams sobbed loudly and held her hands up to her face.

Prosecutor Timothy Spencer QC told the court Adams started the blaze because she wanted to create a "drama" to get Mr Maynard's attention.

The court heard that Mr Maynard had cheated on Adams several times, which led to her attempting suicide on a previous occasion.
