A man in Israel has a unique hobby: he collects pictures of Hexagrams from all over the world, and displays them on the Internet. Our correspondent brings us this story.
In his small Jerusalem apartment Zeev Barkan spends hours a day surfing the Internet. He searches for new pictures and information about the Hexagram, a symbol also known as the Star of David, Shield of David, or King Solomon's Seal.
[Zeev Barkan, Star of David Picture Collector]:
"I think that the Star of David is a symbol of the unity of the opposites, and this subject fascinates me since I started learning philosophy in The Hebrew University in 1966."
star-of-david.blogspot.com - Zeev's personal blog. This is where he arranges and displays his Star of David collection.
[Zeev Barkan, Star of David Picture Collector]:
"My blog is dedicated to the Star of David from every aspect you can imagine. There is historical information, archeological information, many creations of artists in Israel and abroad, many pictures that I took myself of Stars of David in the street, in buildings...you name it. In my blog, I estimate that I have more than 2000 different pictures of Stars of David."
Having become an expert on the Star of David, Zeev began to write books.
[Zeev Barkan, Star of David Picture Collector]:
"The Star of David is an English coin, a kind of expression. In Hebrew it is called 'The Shield of David -- Magen David.' The Star of David is actually a Christian name for the Shield of David, and it comes from the Star of the Magi...the three sages who went to look for Baby Jesus, who was in Bethlehem."
In Israel, a country where the Star of David is a national symbol, Stars of David can be found practically everywhere.
But Zeev says that Stars of David can be found worldwide.
