Jose Mourinho is keeping an open mind about Real Madrid's Champions League chances against Lyon in the first knockout round.

The man who has won two Champions League titles as managers of Porto and Inter says he will do all he can to reverse Real's recent record of not getting past the last sixteen in the last six years.

He said: "Real Madrid are a top club in European history with nine European Cups so I think it is time to stop with this negative period."

Despite winning two Premier League titles with Chelsea, the Champions League was one success to elude him. He warns current manager Carlo Ancelotti not to take opponents FC Copenhagen too lightly.

"He knows he has to respect Copenhagen because Copenhagen showed in the group phase that they don't have the same potential they don't have the same talent as other teams but they are very well organised and they have self belief."

As for Arsenal, Mourinho says they have only themselves to blame for landing favourites Barcelona. "So if they play against Barcelona it is because they didn't do very well in the group stage so they are paying for it."
