A bomb blast killed two people and wounded three others on the outskirts of the Pakistani city of Peshawar on Monday.

It happened some 12 miles south of the city.

[Shah Hussain, Witness]:
"Suddenly an explosion occurred and smoke rose. I rushed to see what happened. It seems that it was an attack on a vehicle, an armored personnel carrier. I picked up two injured people at the scene and rushed them to hospital."

Local television reported the bomb targeted a vehicle carrying the head of the local tribal committee.

Another member of the tribal committee, who was known for opposing the Taliban, was killed in a suicide attack last year.
