Champion Surfer Andy Irons Dies at 32

The surfing world is in mourning the sudden death of the triple world surfing champion Andy Irons. He was 32 years old.

This is how Andy Irons will be remembered.

The American three times World Champion surfer died suddenly on Tuesday from complications due to illness.

He was aged 32.

The Association of Surfing Professionals, or ASP, was in mourning as news broke that Irons had died.

"We are very very deeply saddened and in mourning at the moment, we're all grieving at the moment and our thoughts and best wishes go out to the family and all the friends."

Hawaii-born Irons was returning home from a surfing event in Puerto Rico, when he died.

He was found by hotel staff in his room in Dallas where he was due to catch a connecting flight back to Hawaii.

Reports state the surfer was ill with suspected dengue fever.

Irons won the ASP world champion titles in 2002, 2003 and 2004, and had a total of 19 elite tour victories.

He is survived by his wife Lyndie, who is pregnant with their first child.
