The shores of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel inspired fashion designers who showcased their creations in a holiday festival. The event included a contest for choosing what will be considered the country's national garment.

This unique fashion show enables us to look at the work of Israeli fashion designers who say they used the Sea of Galilee for inspiration.

Their creations show diversity of blue hues in layers bringing to mind the sea and its waves.

The gray hues allude to the basalt rocks found on the lake shores. The models' hair design and makeup helped turn the event into a fashion celebration and a colorful experience enjoyed by the visitors.

[Zohar Oved, Mayor of Tiberias]:
"What we see here is in fact the first fashion show in an historic city that several years from now will celebrate its 2,000th anniversary. We are looking at fashion offered by some of the best Israeli designers in a contest for deciding on the national garment of the state of Israel for the year 2010".

Freshwater lake Kinneret is the lowest in the world.

It is the largest freshwater reservoir and provides for a quarter of Israel's water consumption.

After years of drought the water level in Lake Kinneret has dropped, so there exists a danger that it will turn into a saltwater lake.

Exposing this issue may help raise awareness about the current situation to help save the Sea of Galilee.

The panel of judges included some of the best known Israeli designers.

The three-day long festival provided locals and visitors alike a chance to enjoy the lakeshore while taking in the latest in fashion wear. Clothing and bathing suits booths were side by side, offering the best of Israeli fashion.
