Novel and Noteworthy, Cheap Thrills, Big Breakthroughs, and Everything In-Between Global beauty sales are expected to reach $300 billion in 2010, there are thousands of products on the market and just as many claims to go with them. For the beauty-obsessed, or even those merely interested in makeup, the hotly anticipated Best of Beauty issue has arrived. The average woman has 4.5 products in her shower, but at the height of Best of Beauty testing, one Allure editor had 59. Educated beauty addicts arm themselves with the industry bible, Allure’s Best of Beauty issue. Allure’s rigorous testing process takes six months and includes trying products on all skin and hair types. They’ve narrowed the selection down to the 190 greatest anti-agers, lipsticks, moisturizers, concealers, frizz busters, mascaras, wrinkle fighters, and more out there. As a nod to the economic times and for the budget conscious, this year’s Cheap Thrill section has been expanded, featuring a slew of products that are all $9 and under. They’ve also added a new category for sensitive skin, since many describe their skin as sensitive and want non-irritating, soothing products. There’s even an amped up guy’s stuff category for the women who love to buy for their men. Allure’s Beauty Director, Amy Keller Laird, breaks down the Best of Beauty list for you – from the bargain finds to the decadent splurges - she tells you what must-haves should be on your shopping list. She shares insight on the testing process and how the magazine came up with this year’s picks as well as guide you on what innovative products to look out for.
