The 2010 Shaw Prize for Mathematical Sciences:
This year's Shaw Prize for Mathematical Sciences goes to Jean Bourgain, a Belgian mathematician whose vast trove of work has gained him recognition as one of the giants of 21st Century maths. One of his contributions is in the field of pseudorandomness, the process of generating random numbers that's used in cryptography, slot machines and video games.
