Juan Belsito and his wife Nina performed at legendary Club Almagro during the FM Tango reopening party night, Saturday, April 5, 1997.
Belsito was one of last authentic dancers from the Golden Age, having begun dancing in 1941 at age 16. Characterized by a truly unique style that provides a glimpse of how the tango might have been danced before the music underwent a major transformation in the mid-twenties, he ranks high in our respect scale for having never used, mentioned, or exploited the word canyengue.
The memory of the various performances we were so fortunate to witness in 1997 and 2005 makes it impossible to think that we will no longer see him holding his dear Nina while his mischievous eyes, hiding behind the dark glasses, relish at the mesmerizing effect his dancing had.
Juan Belsito died October 12, 2006 of a heart attack. He was 78 years old. His wife and tango partner, Nina Quesada survives him. Belsito was born in 1928 in the neighborhood of Villa Urquiza. On August 14th he was part of the presentation of the audiovisual project of the Maestros in Teatro Colón.
