Cheryl Cole has reportedly thanked the doctors who saved her life.

The X Factor star was treated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases based at University College London Hospital after she contracted malaria.

The Mirror reports that the singer, who is now completing her recovery at home, paid this tribute to the medics who helped her:

''I want to say how grateful I am for everything you guys have done. I wouldn't be here now, if it wasn't for you.''

Cheryl was spotted out in public for the first time since she became ill this week and it's thought she is going back to her native city of Newcastle to visit friends and family next week.
