India Holds National Motocross Championship in Jaipur

In India, over 50 riders from across the country participated in the 2010 National Motocross Championship held in northwestern India. The unique sandy tracks proved to be a challenge for many riders.

The 2010 National Motocross Championship was held on Sunday in the northwest Indian city of Jaipur. Fifty top riders from around the country participated in the event.

Local riders seem to have the edge because of the sandy tracks.

[S. P. S. Garcha, Federation of Motors Sports Clubs of India]: (Hindi, male)
"While the riders in Jaipur are experienced in riding in sand, the other riders are still learning, despite having better machines. The local riders know all the techniques, and we should encourage them by holding local events. Of course national events are also important, but as a regional director of this federation, I think we should hold more local events."

Garcha says organizers have allowed local riders to participate so they can display their talent, which will also encourage local participation in the adventure sport.

In an interesting turn of events, three-time national champion Santosh from Bangalore was overtaken by another national level rider named Zinnan.

Zinnan says he found it difficult to ride on a sandy track, which is not found anywhere else in India.

[Zinnan, Championship Winner]: (English)
"It is very difficult from other tracks. The sand is very loose; the terrain is very loose. The jumps (hurdles) are also very loose. You have to think and ride. Some jumps you cannot jump. Some ramps are very bad. The approach is not good. You have to think and ride, otherwise you will crash."

Jaipur is emerging as a favorite spot for similar motocross events in India because of its unique sandy terrain.
