Locals and Visitors Enjoy Paris Beach

The beach has come to Paris.

As temperatures soared on Tuesday in the French capital, the banks of the River Seine were transformed into a sun worshipping haven.

Locals and tourists enjoyed a beach outing - without having to leave the city.

[Chrystelle, Paris Resident]:
"It's really very, very nice. We don't always have the chance in Paris to go to this kind of thing. It's not far away; it's very, very good."

[Monika, Visitor from Poland]:
"It's a great surprise for us, because when we decided to go to Paris it was: Can we choose the city or can we choose a beach? And now we can see a beach in a city, so it's amazing, yes."

Sand, palm trees, deckchairs, and petanque pitches were installed by workmen overnight -- and water sprays ensured a cool experience.

Introduced by Mayor Bertrand Delanoe in 2002, Paris Beach has become a permanent summer feature in The City of Light.
