A number of cars were eliminated in a first corner pile up due to a collision with Kimi Räikkönen, Ralf Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. This was a first hat-trick (win, pole, and fastest lap) for Juan Pablo Montoya who picked up his 2nd win of the season and the 3rd of his career.
