Gwyneth Paltrow has written on her blog that she in the early stages of osteopenia, which is a precursor to the brittle-bone disease osteoporosis.

The 37-year-old actress says the condition was diagnosed after she had a bone scan following a leg fracture.

Her doctors told Gwyneth she was suffering with the lowest levels of vitamin D "they had ever seen" and was advised to take special vitamins and spend "a bit of time in the sun."

Osteoporosis is a bone disease which can lead to an increased risk of fractures and can be caused by excess excercise and a lack of calcium.

Some journalists are speculating about whether Gwyneth's condition is linked to her alternative lifestyle which includes a strict fitness regime and a macrobiotic diet focusing on vegetables, pulses and fish and limiting dairy produce.
