Do you like vintage cars, racing, and up-to-date clothes? Well then, the annual Prince Bertil Memorial event would probably be to your liking. Our correspondents from Stockholm have more.

During an early summer, almost 70 000 spectators came to Biskopsudden in Djurgården, Stockholm to watch the annual motor race and old veteran cars with their handsome owners at Prins Bertil Memorial.

”It’s a party for the whole family, no entries, a lot of candies for the kids, but not to pay for,
they get it for free.”

The day starts with a car cortege through Stockholm consisting of some 400 veteran cars.
After that, cars are on display, contests are held and people meet to smalltalk.
The most eye-catching of the contests is Concours de Charm in which the equipage is judged by how well it correlates with the characteristic and the charm of the period.
This was Austin owner Rolf Lewander’s second time participating.

”It´s such a great event to be here. I mean it´s funny when you have an old car to dress up in old clothes. Yes we really like this type of event.”

The precursor, Gärdesloppet, was held during the winter, and was at Gärdet in Stockholm.
After the stop-over it was again recreated by motor devotees Staffan Kjellberg and Prince Bertil, also known as the Motor Prince.
Nowadays it is a summer race, named after him.

[Staffan Kjellbrg, CO founder]: (English, male)
”Of course some accidents always happen but that makes it all (the) more thrilling, a car broke down you know and all those things. It has not to do that the car has most value, it just breaks down during a race, it is a race for fun.”

Many people would surely agree that this is a feast for the eye for adults and children, and many come to meet like-minded people.
