The first project to be completed under Upgrade’s banner was the astonishing documentary ‘Interview with a Cannibal’: the shocking true story of Armin Meiwes, the man dubbed the Rotenburg Cannibal by the global press after he had been found to have cannibalised a lover; a man he had developed a relationship with on the internet for the purpose of this bizarre and fatal mutual encounter. Over 9 hours of filmed interviews with Mr. Meiwes and exclusive access to his home and family friends was captured to produce this fascinating documentary.
On October 16th the programme broke records in Germany as it was aired on RTL without a single advertisement break and achieved a 23% market share. On Nov 5th the international (English) version, co-produced and distributed worldwide by RDF Rights, was aired on Channel 5 and was the UK’s number one rated 10 o’clock show and very positively reviewed by the national press.
