Will Ferrell has said plans for a sequel to his hit movie Anchorman have been put on hold.

The Hollywood star has admitted the director of the original film, Adam McKay, has found it too difficult to get the original cast back together.

"Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" became a box office hit after it's initial release in 2004. It starred Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate and Steve Carell as members of a 1970s news team.

Speaking to Zoo magazine, Will said: "I thought we were doing it. I was told it was happening and now I have heard it is going to be too hard to get everyone together."

Rumours of a sequel had been around for a few years before Ferrell confirmed in 2008 that firm plans were under way.
