Thirteen people are dead with 50 injured in an explosion at a starch factory in China’s northern Hebei Province Wednesday. Five people are still reported missing.

Nine of the injured are in critical condition.

The explosion ripped through a workshop in the factory in Qinhuangdao City around 4pm local time.

A company spokesman says an initial investigation revealed the accident was caused by a dust explosion.

The company, Qinhuangdau Lihua Starch Co. Ltd., has been ordered to halt production.

The privately run company, which employs 2,800 workers, produces mainly starch and glucose.
