In Japan, Toyota workers rallied behind their company’s president, Akio Toyoda. Toyoda appeared before the U.S. Congressional panel where he apologized for Toyota’s mishaps.

Many of the workers say they believe in his testimony.

[Yukio Nibu, Toyota Worker]:
"I think what the president said will be trusted by people around the world."

Others believe that Toyoda’s appearance in the U.S. is significant.

[Kayoko Atsukawa, Local]:
"Toyota cars are being driven everywhere in the world, so it's a matter of due procedure that the president goes to the place where they were sold and addresses the issue."

The Japanese Prime Minister has also shown his support for Toyota and says there’s hope for the troubled automaker.

[Yukio Hatoyama, Japanese Prime Minister]:
"When problems like this arise, it's the responsibility of the president to provide evidence, which I think is a good thing. As there is also talk of trying to implement reforms, I don't believe this is the end of everything."

During the congressional hearing on Wednesday, Toyoda expressed remorse about accidents from faulty accelerators and brakes that have led to several fatal accidents in the U.S.
