00:17The three points were crucial at the end of this nine-game block, before the international break as well.
00:28But equally, the identity, the intensity, the togetherness, the way we managed the game according to the strength, the scenario,
00:42I think it was good.
00:44The worst possible start with Gran is going off inside a couple of minutes. What was the situation now and
00:49how is it?
00:50It looks like a calf injury, but we don't know exactly the time frame at the minute.
00:56Did you feel that in the warm-up?
00:58Yes, just the last sprint of the warm-up. It's often the case.
01:03We talked a lot about young players and you don't know until in this situation that the performance of Jules
01:08against Chelsea was special, wasn't it?
01:12It's given you a lot to think about for the next quarter of the games.
01:14Yes, absolutely. But it's part of the journey. Jules had minutes in the Carabao Cup, in the Europa League.
01:22He struggled at times to manage different situations. He wants to learn. He wants to understand the mistakes.
01:32And he's got big attributes. He's really young. So in Sunderland, we believe that we can have experienced players on
01:46one side, but also on the other side, we can develop players.
01:49And he's one of them.
01:50And you made a couple of calls with Shamsdine's first Premier League start of the season and also trade back
01:54on the right against Chelsea in the past as well.
01:57Can you just talk through those two decisions and why is it the right time for Shamsdine?
02:00Yeah, with Shamsdine, I think two or three weeks ago, we had a long conversation about the season. How did
02:10it start? And we can't go back on the past.
02:14Now let's move forward. We have to create the conditions for our wingers to get better. It's really demanding in
02:23the Premier League.
02:23We don't have many wingers at the top for the full season. So we need to support you, but you
02:30have to do your job as well.
02:31And you'll have your opportunities soon. Work hard. And I think he came on against Leeds at the end of
02:39the game.
02:40And since that, he had different opportunities. And today, I think he was good. Very good.
02:46I mean, Brian, again, just, you know, it felt like Chelsea's defenders just could not deal with him. I mean,
02:53he's pretty unique in, you know, in world football, really.
02:58There's not many strikers do what he's just done out there at the middle.
03:02Yeah, his physicality, his intensity is impressive. That's for sure. Against a team who wants to press, the build up,
03:13it's so important to have a target.
03:15And Brian is one of those players and is well connected with the team as well. So probably deserve to
03:23score or to create more chances, but it was so important.
03:26And you said, you know, the result was important, which it clearly was, but probably more important, do you think,
03:32was the return of that, you know, everything that Sunderland did so well last season.
03:37And we may have seen the times this season that like was all out there today. That's your Sunderland, isn't
03:43it?
03:43Yeah, I would like to say yes. It's the case. But sometimes, so two things. The first is the journey.
03:49It's really demanding. We need to adapt.
03:52And the second, I think the lads felt the danger as well. It's important to take this into account. It's
04:01important to do now because if it's later, it would be too late.
04:04And so it's not done. I told them the target is still 40 points. So it's a long way to
04:11go. But the reaction and what we showed as a group and individual performances as well were really, really important.
04:21How satisfying was that win personally for you? Because in the last few weeks, it was easy.
04:26No, it wasn't easy. I agree. You work hard with your coaching staff, the staff in general, with the players,
04:35and you don't get results.
04:36So this consistency is really important. Keeping the energy high as well to show the way for everyone in the
04:45room and with the players, the coaching staff.
04:48So I think I did it. But you need rewards to stay consistent. And it helps for sure.
04:57Hi, Regis. Just back to Brian. Do you feel like those kinds of games are where you really get the
05:02best out of him?
05:02Where he feels like he's under the cosh a bit. There's maybe some decisions going against him as well.
05:06Because that could be frustrating for some players, but it seems like the kind of waves it on, it just
05:09inspires him further.
05:10I think it's a powerful driver for him. The more he's frustrated, the better he is.
05:24I don't know if... What do you think? I don't think so. Someone who can hold the ball like him,
05:37they are rare. Really rare. Yeah.
05:40Are you going to withdraw him from the Netherlands?
05:43Yeah, he has to go. So we need to manage him because he's still on the edge from a freshness
05:53point of view.
05:56So I hope we'll be smart together to manage him properly.
06:00How will you celebrate tonight? Sorry. How will you celebrate tonight?
06:03I don't know yet. I'm going to be calm for sure because it's just the beginning of the journey.
06:07Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Thanks everybody. Thank you. Thank you.
06:11A few weeks. See you.
06:12There we go.
