power read on God of Wrath, and the man who loses is not defeated by a rival.
He is defeated by becoming visible.
For years Landon's power over Cecily works because it is never described. He does not ask for anything. He is simply the default, and a default does not need to explain itself.
Then a second option appears, and a default becomes a choice, and a choice can be examined. That is the whole collapse. Nothing about him changes. The comparison exists now.
So what he fights in the last act is not Jeremy. It is the sudden possibility that somebody could grade him.
✨ What worked for me:
- He never loses his reputation. He loses his monopoly.
- He never argues that he is better. He argues that Jeremy is worse.
✨ Bottom line: he was never competing. He was the only entry.
Who benefits from a shortlist of one?
