00:00At least 14 European flights were hit by hox bomb alerts for the third day this week, authorities and airlines
00:07said.
00:10The UN management commissioner Martakos met four representatives of Serbia's election-winning student list in Brussels on Monday.
00:21Reza Pellavi, the son of the last Iranian Shah, is in Brussels to call for more sanctions and economic pressure
00:27on Iran.
00:30Cristiano Ronaldo announced his retirement from international football, ending a career with the Portuguese team that spanned six World Cups
00:37and included a European title.
00:41Fresh produce prices have surged across Europe in recent months. This is largely driven by high energy costs.
00:50Unprocessed food prices, including those of items such as fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, rose 4.6 percent.
00:56That is up from 2.7 percent in August.
01:00Energy was the main driver, with fuel, electricity and heating being a fifth more expensive than a year prior.
01:07And when those costs increase, fresh produce, which cannot sit in a warehouse for months, is particularly impacted.
01:15Italy, for example, was hard hit.
01:17In October, unprocessed food in the country cost 7.5 percent more than a year prior.
01:23This is up 5.5 percent in September.
01:26Prices for the typical shopping basket rose 2.5 percent, up from 1.5.
01:32Also in other countries across Europe, including in France, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus and Romania, grocery shopping has gotten more expensive.
01:41While fresh produce prices have risen sharply, overall food price increases across Europe, particularly those of processed foods, have remained
01:50relatively modest this year.
01:57EU enlargement commissioner Marta Kos met four representatives of Serbia's election-winning student list in Brussels on Monday.
02:05The discussions focused on internal affairs rather than on enlargements, with Kos offering the bloc's support on domestic reforms.
02:12On Monday, upon my invitation, I have met the representatives of the students' list.
02:19And we were discussing many things.
02:23Also how actually the primary role they see now for Serbia is to country become democratic again.
02:32For Brussels, the government change raises hopes of a reset with the Western Balkans country.
02:37The new Serbian government has an opportunity to turn the page, strengthen democratic institutions and fundamental rights,
02:45and take the necessary steps to advance on Serbia's succession path.
02:48The grassroots movement was born from protests after a concrete canopy collapsed at a railway station in Ovisad,
02:55killing 16 people and fueling anger and accusations of corruption.
02:59The student list has secured an absolute majority in Parliament, ending Aleksandar Vucic's 14-year rule.
03:10Europe is hoping it can spur a new generation of European chip design companies with a 525 million euros bet
03:18on startups.
03:19The European Commission announced the European chip design platform, which aims to offer early-stage firms' design tools,
03:26access to intellectual property and manufacturing, and grants of up to 16 million euros.
03:32Chip design is a core stage of the semiconductor value chain and a place where much of the industry's innovation
03:39emerges.
03:40Yet European firms currently generate less than 1% of global revenues in this segment, the Commission said.
03:47EU officials say this undermines the bloc's wider chip strategy.
03:51New manufacturing capacity in Europe will only be sustainable if there is enough demand for it,
03:56and much of that demand has to come from European designers.
04:00Officials say the stakes go beyond startups.
04:03New European factories will only pay off if European designers supply the demand.
04:09The CHIPS Act was designed to lift the EU to a 20% share of global semiconductor production by 2030,
04:16up from a base of around 9% in 2020.
04:19But in a 2025 report, the European Court of Auditors concluded that the target is very unlikely to be met.
04:28Meanwhile, chip capacity is concentrated to just a handful of companies led by Taiwan and South Korea.
04:40Hungary released communist-era secret police files, identifying up to 60,000 agent names.
04:4736 years after the fall of communism, the TISA government has fulfilled one of its key election promises by making
04:54the files public.
05:21The list, however, will likely stay incomplete.
05:25Historians estimate that around 150,000 people may have been part of the network,
05:31but only 60,000 names are currently available online.
05:34Many files were destroyed during the 1956 revolution,
05:38and again during the transition from communism to democracy.
05:43Today, as I said, the 6-as cartons are coming from the names.
05:47The 6-as cartons are two sides, but this is not a beszervezési dossier.
05:52They are constantly working on the file of documents, and then the file of documents.
05:57And then the 2027. February 25th of the year,
05:59the 2027. February 25th of the year,
06:02the 8-as cartons will be completed.
06:06It will be completed.
06:07And then the total information will be completed.
06:09And after all, the data is completed.
06:12It will make a decision-making, a decision-making, a decision-making, a decision-making, a decision-making and a
06:19decision-making.
06:20It will make a decision-making and a decision-making decision.
06:25Magyar also reminded Hungarians that anyone holding documents related to the recruitment of informants is legally required to hand them
06:32over.
06:32Failing to do so is a criminal offense.
06:35The first list of public figures whose files have been uploaded to the system are already available online.
06:41They include a well-known singer, the mayor of a county and the father of a government minister.
06:46However, having a Form 6 card does not in itself prove that the person in question actually reported on people
06:52they knew.
06:57At least 14 European flights were targeted by bomb threats on Thursday, marking the third day of mass alerts this
07:05week, particularly targeting low-cost carriers on European flights.
07:09Several planes were escorted by fighter jets, while at least two flights were diverted.
07:14According to flight tracking websites, an Aer Lingus flight travelling from Dublin to Rome was redirected to France and escorted
07:22by military aircraft.
07:24Other threats affected flights heading to Rome, Vienna and Sofia.
07:28Czech police said four flights heading to Prague have all faced bomb threats and that airport authorities are preparing for
07:36their landing.
07:37While three Ryanair flights heading to Bulgaria were also targeted, with one diverted to another city.
07:43No injuries or confirmed explosives have been reported.
07:47But these incidents follow around ten similar threats on Tuesday, forcing the brief closure of a Warsaw airport.
07:55Meanwhile, the UK government called the incidents malicious hoax threats.
08:05Reza Pellavi, the son of the last Iranian Shah and one of the main leaders of the opposition to the
08:11Tehran regime, is in Brussels this week to lobby for more sanctions and economic pressure on Iran.
08:17The message is that when the animal is wounded and will seek revenge, allow it to continue to live.
08:24And that's exactly what's at stake here.
08:26This regime has shown that it's willing to go all the way for its own survival, not just by silencing
08:32its own citizenry, but by now not only threatening maritime traffic, but attacking with missile attacks countries in the area
08:41and perhaps even take action beyond that.
08:43Pellavi called on the EU to show the same resolve as it has toward Russian President Vladimir Putin by uncovering
08:50hidden assets and freezing illegal assets linked to the regime.
08:54You simply cannot allow this kind of terrorist regime to continue to survive and exist.
09:00In addition, he believes a more direct support for the Iranian people from the EU and the US would ultimately
09:06lead to the regime's collapse.
09:14Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong was sentenced to 10 more years in prison on Thursday for colluding with foreign
09:22powers and entities to impose sanctions against the finance hub and China.
09:27Wong, who became internationally known during the umbrella movement that shook Hong Kong in 2014, has been in and out
09:35of jail since 2017 and is now not due for release until late 2036.
09:41The 30-year-old former student leader was expected to be freed in January after serving more than four years
09:48for subversion under a Beijing-introduced national security law.
09:53Wong said in his mitigation letter to court that he had hoped to leave prison in 2027, but the new
09:59charge made him feel like he was back at the beginning.
10:02He added that his future would not be defined by things that happened to him before 2020 and that the
10:08years he has spent behind bars have been the most profound lessons of his life.
10:13Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch said his sentence was cruel and unjust and urged foreign governments to impose targeted sanctions on
10:23officials responsible for Hong Kong's growing repression.
10:26In parallel, China issued a warning on Thursday against irresponsible remarks on Hong Kong's judicial affairs shortly after the United
10:35States condemned Wong's sentencing.
10:42Cristiano Ronaldo announced on Thursday that he is retiring from international football, ending a career with the Portuguese team that
10:49spanned six World Cups and included the European title and the men's all-time international scoring record.
10:55His announcement marked the end of a louder career that began more than two decades ago before Euro 2004 and
11:02ended with him controversially walking out on the national team last month after falling out with coach Jorge Jesus.
11:09Jesus had kept his star player on the bench for the following match and said he didn't plan to start
11:15him in the next one, leading to Ronaldo's departure from the team's training camp.
11:18The Portuguese Football Federation released a statement expressing deep gratitude and immense admiration for Ronaldo's service to the country.
11:26Ronaldo will keep playing at a club level and is expected to finish his club career at the end of
11:31the season with Al Nasser in Saudi Arabia.
11:33He is in pursuit of his 1,000th career goal and is currently on 985.
11:39He has been following along with Al Nasser in Eli Main Street.
