00:00It's indeed a great pleasure for me to be part of a function that is celebrating not just the achievement
00:11of our future generation, but also the achievement of the current generation that is helping to mould that future.
00:26I will not undermine the importance of academic performance. I think it's also important that we create all-round good
00:37citizens. It's important that we create a generation that learns to think for itself.
00:44I regret that for a long time our education system has been designed around what we can replicate. As we
00:53say, rata marna, what we teach and what we repeat, but nothing beyond that.
01:03Children have to learn to think for themselves. Children have to learn to act for themselves. But children also have
01:10to be able to learn to distinguish between what is right and what is wrong.
01:14The role that the diocese and the education society play in the development of Jammu and Kashmir and in the
01:23progress of Jammu and Kashmir is self-evident from the distinguished people sitting in the front row who are products
01:31of the schools that the society runs.
01:34To run 24 schools educating 28,000 students a year employing 1,600 people and spread across the length and
01:43breadth of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
01:48These schools produce civil service officers. They produce police officers. They produce doctors. They produce business leaders. But I think
02:02more than anything else, they produce successful people who remain good people.
