07:25On a more personal side, obviously
07:28But I think that's dragging a lot of growth in Europe also
07:33Especially in real estate
07:35And the Republicans lost the election partly because of deep-seated economic insecurity
07:42Is American optimism still the driving force behind their economy?
07:48Definitely, definitely
07:50I mean, I've been here for now 10 years
07:53I studied here a little bit
07:55I know you live here also
07:57And I think that's the kick-up moment of the US
08:01I mean, Americans stay optimists
08:03And that's the main difference I experience every time I go back to Europe
08:08Honestly, that's the thing that struck me every time
08:10And I think that even if we are facing tough time here in the US
08:15On inflation again
08:17Still, I mean, people are able to find jobs
08:20Their unemployment rate is still very low
08:22And that contributes to that optimism
08:25And what would you advise a European investor who is heavily exposed to US markets?
08:32Stay the course, hedge against political risk or diversify?
08:37I guess the key, as always, is diversification
08:40You know, you experienced that the other way around
08:43Two years ago when we saw tremendous requests from US investors to diversify in currency, in assets
08:52Where we all witnessed the European market going up even, you know, a larger number than US markets last year
09:02And I think that's also true the other way around
09:05Diversification will always take the key
09:12Xavier Volatier, head of Transatlantic Private Wealth in New York
09:17Europe is also still digesting yesterday's landslide results from the US midterm elections
09:22And what it all might mean for Europe and the war in Ukraine
09:26Efforts to bring the war to an end have regained ground in recent weeks
09:30With the Finnish president and Norwegian prime minister
09:33Even holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin
09:36Let's bring in our NATO correspondent Shona Murray
09:39Who is in Helsinki, where she's been talking to several officials about what might lie ahead
09:44Good morning, Shona
09:46Firstly, what's the reaction been to the sweeping win for the Democrats?
09:53Well, good morning, Stefan
09:54And of course, it's very early to say exactly what will happen
09:57But there is a bit of optimism that perhaps Donald Trump, because of the nature of the win
10:02Would have to listen to Congress more
10:04And maybe things like the Lindsey Graham Act, which applies sanctions on Russia
10:08That that might be implemented
10:09Or, crucially, I heard to speak to some officials close to the foreign policy brief
10:14Who say that perhaps there will be a reshuffle in the White House administration
10:17And you could see Pete Hegset, the current Secretary of War or of Defence
10:21That he might be removed and replaced
10:23And he has a very confrontational relationship with Europe
10:25So that's some of the optimism, Stefan
10:28I understand there's another round of talks today on Ukraine
10:33What can we expect here?
10:37Well, indeed, those talks are a prelude to next week's talks between Russia, Ukraine and the US and Abu Dhabi
10:43Now, they're technical and political
10:45And what I heard from NATO allies just this morning is that
10:48One of the discussions will be the urgent need for Ukraine to have access to Patriot interceptor missiles
10:53There's a major stockpile shortage of these
10:56And Sakur, the NATO chief military officer, is calling for seven countries within NATO
11:01To give them to Ukraine immediately
11:03But those countries are resisting
11:05Because unless they can get guarantees of replenishment by the United States
11:09That guarantee isn't quite there
11:11So that's really where we're talking about when it comes to interceptors
11:14But of course, there's political discussions about ending the war
11:17And we know that, as you mentioned earlier
11:19The President Stubb here of Finland
11:21Alongside the Norwegian Prime Minister
11:22Held a talk with Putin just a few days ago
11:25A 90-minute conversation
11:27There is belief that maybe there could be a ceasefire
11:30Or potentially a prisoner swap
11:32But that's really what the hope is for the next round of discussions
11:35It's not really going to be an end
11:37However, there will be talks about post-security guarantees
11:41Post-war security guarantees
11:42And in a few weeks, we'll also see Marco Rubio
11:46The U.S. Secretary of State
11:47Coming to Brussels to meet his NATO allies
11:50So that will be a probably key moment to see what the future of
11:53In relation to this administration
11:55And relations with Europe will be
11:57Stefan
11:57All right, Shona Murray in Helsinki
12:00Thank you very much
12:01Reza Pahlavi, son of the last Iranian Shah
12:05And one of the main leaders of the opposition to the Tehran regime
12:08Is in Brussels this week
12:10To lobby for more sanctions and economic pressure on Iran
12:14Yesterday, he met several members of the European Parliament
12:17At a press conference, he called on the EU
12:20To show the same resolve as it has
12:23Toward Russian President Vladimir Putin
12:24By uncovering hidden assets and freezing illegal assets
12:29Linked to the regime
12:30Afterwards, he spoke to Euronews' Vincenzo Genovese
12:34Who asked him about the changes in Washington
12:36Take a listen
12:37There are many Democrats in America
12:40Who also believe that the Iranian regime is a major problem
12:43It threatens national security for the U.S.
12:46But also, and their interests
12:47But also, look at the region and the consequences
12:49Of this regime
12:50Continue a policy of blackmail by taking hostages
12:53Or disturbing maritime traffic through its proxies
12:56And helping the Houthis
12:57And the conflict that exists right now
12:59In the other straits
13:00So, ultimately, whether or not the conclusion is that
13:03The job needs to be finished
13:05May be a question that they all have to explore
13:07Irrespective of the composition now
13:09Of the House and the Senate back in the U.S.
13:11So, my ask from the EU countries
13:15Is irrespective of your own political compositions
13:18The cause of liberty and the cause of freedom in Iran
13:21And what will lead to ultimate stability
13:24As opposed to instability
13:25Depends ultimately on Iranians
13:27To be able to free themselves from this regime
13:29And that should be their main policy focus
13:31But also what can concretely be done
13:34To actually be an element
13:35That adds more pressure on the regime
13:37That could be extending economic sanctions
13:39But parallel to that
13:41Also have more direct support for the Iranian people
13:44Which we believe in that momentum
13:46Will cause even more defections from the regime
13:48And that's what will lead ultimately
13:50To the regime's collapse
13:51And the liberalization of Iran
13:53But it strikes against the regime
13:56Caused the response of the regime
13:58The closing of the Strait of Hormuz
13:59Which sparked a spike in the energy price
14:02Which is one of the main warning for Europeans
14:05What's your message to Europeans about that?
14:07The message is that when the animal is wounded
14:11And will seek revenge
14:12Do allow it to continue to live
14:14And that's exactly what's at stake here
14:16This regime has shown
14:18That it's willing to go all the way
14:20For its own survival
14:21Not just by silencing its own citizenry
14:24But by now
14:26Not only threatening maritime traffic
14:28But attacking with missile attacks
14:30Countries in the area
14:31And perhaps even take action beyond that
14:33You simply cannot allow this kind of terrorist regime
14:36Continue to survive and exist
14:38And you know the most important factor
14:41In this are the people of Iran themselves
14:42Who have risked their lives
14:44And are willing to die for the cause of freedom
14:45Why not for once after 47 years
14:48Abandon the idea of appeasement
14:50And negotiations
14:51Thinking that that would offer you
14:53A guarantee of stability
14:54And bet on the Iranian people
14:56As the element that will bring in
14:59The element of stability
15:00Because we are committed
15:01To the same values of liberty and freedom
15:03As you are
15:03And enjoying it here in Europe
15:05This regime doesn't
15:06This regime executes everybody
15:08That stands for human rights
15:09And freedom in Iran
15:10Europe has a tradition
15:11Of standing with democracy and freedom
15:13Why not today recognize
15:15That this regime will never be
15:16A reliable partner
15:18It's only trying to buy time
15:20Take advantage of weakness
15:22In leadership and decision making
15:23Whereas people every day
15:25Are risking life and limb to say
15:27We are your solution
15:28Why don't you come to our help
15:30Because we are going to fight the fight
15:32Help us get to a point
15:33That we can securely
15:34Come back to the streets
15:35And reclaim our country
15:36This is the specific elements
15:38That will make a difference
15:40In how soon Iran can be liberated
15:41As opposed to drag the conflict
15:43Even further
15:48Reza Pahlavi speaking to
15:50Vincenzo Genovese
15:51A new warning about
15:53Europe's vulnerability
15:54To cyber attacks
15:55From supermarket refrigeration systems
15:58Across the continent
15:59To blood bank facilities in France
16:01Hackers are increasingly targeting
16:03The digital systems
16:04That keep our societies running
16:06And potentially putting lives at risk
16:09Is this just cybercrime
16:11Or are we witnessing a new front
16:13In hybrid warfare against Europe?
16:15Joining me now is Professor Kevin Caron
16:17Cyber security expert
16:18At Ulster University in the UK
16:20Good morning to you
16:21Good morning
16:22So what exactly are hackers doing?
16:26How can someone sitting behind a computer
16:28Remotely take control
16:30Of a supermarket's refrigerators
16:32Or blood bank's cooling systems?
16:36Yes
16:37These operational technology
16:39Is becoming more common
16:41Especially in the wake of COVID
16:44Where a lot of technicians
16:45Were not able to travel
16:46To remote sites
16:48Therefore it seemed to be easier
16:50To install remote monitoring
16:53Systems as well
16:54Which can be logged into remotely
16:56You're able to check the temperature
16:57Able to control the temperature
16:59And of course
17:00These fridges again
17:01Need evaporation circuits
17:03Turned on daily
17:04Actually
17:05To run
17:06So that the fridge
17:07Doesn't become
17:08Iced up
17:09Of course
17:10Now
17:10You know
17:11On paper it's a good idea
17:12Of course
17:13But the fact is
17:14These were very weak
17:16The controllers
17:18That are used
17:19To be able to log into
17:20From anywhere in the world
17:22That one of them
17:24For instance
17:25Doesn't have any updates
17:26For basically ten years
17:28The other one
17:29For five years
17:30The flaws have been known
17:32For a number of years
17:33The way that you can log in remotely
17:35Without even needing
17:36To authenticate
17:37And yet
17:38Of course
17:39A few
17:39Last month
17:41In France
17:42Again fridges were attacked
17:43And then this week
17:45Fridges were attacked again
17:46So lessons were not learned
17:48The first time
17:49On this note
17:51So supermarket refrigerators
17:53Are hardly considered
17:54Critical infrastructure
17:55Yet the failure
17:56Can cause millions
17:57Of euros and losses
17:58Have companies
18:00Underestimated
18:01The cyber security risks
18:02Of everyday technology
18:06Unfortunately
18:06It seems not
18:08That
18:08People have to consider
18:10And companies
18:11Of course
18:11Does anything
18:13That can be connected
18:15To the internet
18:16Should it be
18:16In cases like this
18:18Best practice
18:19In cyber security
18:20Was not handled
18:21Quite often
18:23The default passwords
18:24Were never changed
18:26Again
18:27They didn't use
18:28Any kind of
18:29What we call
18:29A VPN
18:30For good practice
18:31To access
18:32These units
18:33As well
18:34So in fact
18:35There are so many
18:36Things wrong
18:37And it is not
18:38A sophisticated attack
18:40In this case
18:41AI was not used
18:44But it is worth
18:45Noting in the last week
18:47We have seen
18:47A dramatic
18:48Rise in cyber attacks
18:51As we speak
18:53Unprecedented
18:54Actually
18:55In what we
18:56We have this
18:57Common database
18:58Which is shared
18:58Around the world
18:59By all the technology
19:00Companies
19:00Whenever
19:01An exploit
19:02Is found
19:03Like in this case
19:04This would have been
19:05Recorded many years ago
19:06It goes into a database
19:07Ten years ago
19:08This database
19:09The average number
19:10Of per month
19:12Of exploits
19:13That were found
19:14Was about
19:1430 to 40
19:15Last month
19:17This common
19:18Vulnerable
19:19Exploitation database
19:20Added
19:21A new
19:2217,060
19:25Attacks
19:28All right
