00:00I'm going to let the legislature, you know, kind of get their feet under them.
00:05I'm not just going to throw something on them.
00:07You know, we knew this would be something we needed to do.
00:09There's a lot of ideas that we've been tossing around for the last six months,
00:14and I know that they're going to want to do it,
00:16but we want to make sure that we land it in a good way.
00:19So I'll work with them.
00:21I'll probably let them pick the dates.
00:23You know, I'm basically, you know, on lame duck duty at this point.
00:27So, you know, I'm very flexible in terms of being able to do it.
00:31But, yeah, we've got to do it, and it will be,
00:33and I think what it will do is it will set the schedule for further homestead expansion, obviously,
00:39because we want people to be able to get that,
00:42but also limiting local governments from just doing an end run around the amendment
00:46and taxing them in other ways.
00:49Miami-Dade County voted for this 65-35, our biggest county.
00:53I mean, that's a huge, huge mandate for this thing.
00:56So we want to make sure people are saving money,
00:58and that is going to, I think, require a taxpayer bill of rights
01:01where we're not allowing to just go and put fees or do play games.
01:06That's why we did the business reduction,
01:09so they can only raise five instead of ten like they can do now.
01:12They said it would be a tax shift.
01:14It's not going to be a tax shift.
01:15It's going to be a reduction.
01:17And then I'll also work with the legislature to provide a pool of funding
01:20that we can issue grants to local governments for core needs.
01:24And these local, you know, it's like some of the rural, they voted for it over one.
01:28People said, oh, rural won't vote it.
01:30Look at some of the things in rural, what they did.
01:33Overwhelmingly they did, but people say the rural tax base isn't as strong.
01:36It's not.
01:37But it's budget dust to help them with their sheriff's departments.
01:41I mean, you're talking about tens of millions of dollars in grants would be able to handle the, quote, shortfall.
01:47So we'll be able to do that.
01:49There will be a transition period, so we'll work with them on that.
01:52And I think people are going to be very excited to get some much-needed relief.
