The central government has announced significant revisions to the Agnipath military recruitment scheme. Under the new policy, seventy-five percent of Agniveers who were scheduled to exit after completing four years of service will now be offered an additional two-year engagement. Following the completion of six years, they will have the opportunity to apply for regular enrolment in the armed forces, subject to objective selection criteria, while twenty-five percent continue to be absorbed into the regular force after four years. Other modifications include changes to the examination sequence, with written exams preceding physical tests, and the issuance of skill certificates upon completion of service. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh welcomed the move, asserting it will prepare a younger and fitter military. However, the decision triggered strong political reactions, with opposition leaders terming it an election-driven U-turn and questioning whether Agniveers will receive full service benefits or permanent job guarantees, while the Bharatiya Janata Party defended the changes.

00:13will be offered an additional two-year engagement.

00:25thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and saying that it will create a younger,
00:28fitter military prepared for changing warfare.

04:00without harassment, without harassment.
04:38Let's now understand the new rules that have been made,
04:42the announcement that was made and what changes in the Agnipath scheme.
04:46So firstly, 75% Agni V's will be getting two-year extension.
04:50Remember the first batch, four-year tenure was ending
04:53and just ahead of that the government has taken this decision
04:56that 75% of Agni V's will get two-year extension.
04:59Remember, the rest 25% will automatically be selected for the regular army
05:06and the remaining 75% can choose to serve for two more years under the Agnipath scheme.
05:12So, they get to serve for two extra years.
05:15Then there's additional opportunity for regular enrollment.
05:18So, Agnivews may get another chance to join the regular army.
05:21These 75% who will be serving the two extra years.
05:26Now, there is no automatic permanent absorption.
05:28So, it's not like that you serve for two more years and then you get automatically absorbed into the regular
05:34army.
05:34That's not the case.
05:36You will be completing the Agnipath service, but that does not guarantee a permanent army job.
05:40There are a separate set of rules and regulations for that and separate set of criteria for that.
05:47Recruitment examination sequence has been changed.
05:49So, the order of exams and selection tests for joining the army will also be changing.
05:54Skills certificates will be issued.
05:55So, Agnivews will receive certificates showing the skills and training they gained during the service.
