quiet post on Silence! The 8-Year-Old Supreme Mage Is Here, and the detail I love is what he packs.
Everyone else travelling to the capital brings weapons, seals, letters of introduction. He brings sweets. A whole pocket of them, wrapped in paper, and he shares them at every stop.
It is played for a laugh, and then it keeps happening, and by the last third it is the only thing in the series that has not changed.
That pocket is the argument. Whatever he becomes, he is still a boy who thinks a long journey needs provisions.
✨ What worked for me:
- The wrappers end up in his pocket. He keeps them.
- The last one he gives away is to the person who was least kind to him.
✨ Bottom line: they were looking for a weapon and got a kid with a pocket full of sweets.
What would you have packed?
