opening post on I'm Not a Jinx, I'm a Hero, and the title of this one is a legal document.
A child is born with a mark the village cannot explain. Nobody decides to fear him. It happens in stages: whispers, then a word, then the word travels.
The word is jinx. Once it lands, every ordinary thing around him gets to be about him. A roof leaks, a field is thin. Coincidence becomes his fault, because he has been assigned the explanation.
The village is not being cruel. It is being practical. A label that explains everything is cheaper than an investigation.
✨ What worked for me:
- His mother never uses the word. Not once in twelve years.
- She corrects people who use it, quietly, and is ignored.
✨ Bottom line: they didn't curse him. They filed him.
Did anyone in your family ever get labelled like that?
