Transcript
00:14After the 36 spirits and the spirits before them had all been bound, Solomon had much
00:21quiet in all the earth, and spent his time in profound peace, honored by all men, and
00:28by everything under heaven.
00:30With the help of the demons, he built the entire temple of the Lord God, and his kingdom was
00:36prosperous.
00:38His army was with him, and the city and people of Jerusalem had serenity, rejoicing and delighted.
00:45All the kings of the earth came to him, from the ends of the earth, to behold the temple
00:52which he built.
00:53And having heard of the wisdom given to him, they paid homage to him in the temple, bringing
00:59gold and silver and precious stones, bringing bronze, iron, lead, and cedar logs.
01:07They also brought him woods that do not decay, for the equipment of the temple.
01:13Among them also, the queen of the south, being a witch, came in curiosity, and bowed low before
01:21the king.
01:23She tried all of his wisdom, and he instructed her according to the wisdom imparted to him.
01:30One day, one of his workmen, of ripe old age, threw himself down before his throne, and said,
01:39King Solomon, pity me, because I am old.
01:43Solomon bade him to stand up, saying, Tell me, old man, all you will.
01:49And the old man answered, I beg you, king, I have an only-born son, and he insults and
01:56beats me publicly, and plucks out the hair of my head, and threatens me with a painful
02:02death.
02:04Therefore, I beg you, avenge me.
02:08And Solomon felt pity on him, as he looked at his old age, and commanded that the child
02:14be brought to him.
02:15When he was brought, Solomon questioned him as to whether his father's accusations were
02:21true.
02:22And the youth said, I was never so filled with madness that I would strike my father with
02:28my own hand.
02:30Be kind to me, O king, for I would not dare commit such impiety, poor wretch that I am.
02:38On hearing this from the youth, and not sure which to believe, Solomon urged the old man
02:44to reflect on the matter, and accept his son's apology.
02:49However, the old man would not listen, and insisted he would rather let him die.
02:55And as the old man would not yield, Solomon was about to pass sentence on the youth, when
03:02he saw Ornius the demon, laughing.
03:05He was furious at the demon laughing in his presence, and ordered his men to lead the father
03:11and son outside for a moment, and bring Ornius forward before his tribunal.
03:18When Ornius was brought before him, Solomon said to him, Accursed one, why did you look
03:25at me and laugh?
03:27And the demon answered, I pray thee, king, it was not because of you I laughed, but because
03:33of this ill-fated old man, and the wretched youth, his son.
03:38For after three days, his son will die untimely, and here stands the old man, desiring to foully
03:46make away with him.
03:49Solomon said to the demon, Is what you say true?
03:53And he answered, It is true, O king.
03:56And Solomon bade them to remove the demon, and that they should again bring before him,
04:02the old man, with his son.
04:05He told them to make friends with one another, and supplied them with food.
04:10Then he told the old man to bring his son to him again, after three days.
04:16And they saluted him, and went their way.
04:19When they had gone, Solomon again had the demon Ornius brought before him, and said to him,
04:26Tell me, how do you know this?
04:29And he answered, We demons, ascend into the heavens, and fly about among the stars.
04:36And we hear the sentences which go forth upon the souls of men.
04:41With this knowledge, we come down, and whether by force of influence, or by fire, or by sword,
04:50or by some accident, we unleash our act of destruction, thereby carrying out the sentences, upon those
04:57they were pronounced.
04:59For men who are not sentenced to die untimely, by disaster, or by violence, we appear to them
05:06in our human nature, and walk among them, and be worshipped by them.
05:12Solomon again questioned the demon, saying, Tell me how you can ascend into heaven, being
05:18demons, and intermingle with the holy angels.
05:22And he answered, Just as things are fulfilled in heaven, so also are they fulfilled on earth,
05:29for there are principalities, authorities, and world rulers.
05:34We fly about in the air, and we hear the voices of the heavenly beings, and survey all the
05:41powers.
05:42But as we have no ground, on which to alight, and rest, we lose strength, and fall off, like
05:50leaves from trees.
05:52And men, seeing us, imagine that the stars are falling from heaven.
05:58But it is not really so, O king.
06:00We fall because of our weakness, and because we do not have anything to lay hold of.
06:06And so we fall down like lightning, in the depth of the night.
06:10And suddenly, we set cities in flames, and fire to the fields.
06:16Finding it hard to believe, Solomon ordered that the demon be guarded for five days.
06:22After the five days had expired, Solomon called for the old man again, and was about to question
06:29him about his son.
06:31But the old man came to him in grief, and with a sad face.
06:36And Solomon said to him, Tell me, old man, where is your son, and why do you look gloomy?
06:44And he answered, Lo, I have become childless, and now sit by my son's grave in despair, for
06:53it has already been two days since he died.
06:57And Solomon, on hearing this, knew that the demon Ornias had told him the truth.
07:03The queen of the south saw all this happen, and was marveled.
07:09She beheld the temple of God with all of its great works and precious stones, and donated
07:16a shekel of gold and one hundred myriads of silver and of bronze.
07:46a shekel of gold and a shekel of gold, and a shekel of gold and gold.
07:53And Solomon, in some case, was the temple of gold.
07:54So that was a great story.
07:54And Solomon, he said, The woman's grave, I was the one that was the one that was the one that
