The Treasury just set the new I Bond rate at 5.51% for bonds bought November 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027 — up from 4.26%. The 1.40% fixed rate is the highest since November 2006 and locks for the life of the bond, but the 5.51% composite only lasts six months before the inflation piece resets. You can buy up to $10,000 a year, only at TreasuryDirect.gov. Follow US Money Guide for daily money tips!
